A Rhode Island man charged with being drunk when he crashed his car over the weekend, killing his passenger, has appeared in court.
Patrick Carson, of Newport, remained free on $50,000 bond after his arraignment Monday on charges including driving under the influence, death resulting. He did not enter a plea. He was also ordered not to drive.
Middletown police say the 23-year-old Newport man was behind the wheel of the car that crashed at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday. His passenger, 22-year-old Kailyn Newton of Westport, Massachusetts, died.
Carson was treated at the hospital for minor injuries.
Carson declined to comment outside of court. His lawyer only said, “Very sorry for everyone.”
