A Rhode Island man was sentenced to two years in prison for killing his girlfriend's puppy and throwing it at her, NECN affiliate WJAR reports.
Forty-four-year-old Luis Laboy will serve his time at the Rhode Island Adult Correctional Institute before serving a year of probation.
According to the case, Laboy's ex-girlfriend, Maria Knowles, went to the apartment the two once shared to retrieve some of her things. She found her Chihuaha puppy dead.
Laboy then grabbed her and smashed her cell phone. As she ran away, he ran after her and threw the puppy at her, officials said.
The judge said Laboy took his anger and rage for Knowles out on the puppy.
The two-year sentence is the maximum for killing a dog.
