Mother Sentenced for Violently Shaking Baby Son

Danielle Lefebvre was sentenced to 18 years in prison Thursday for the October 2011 assault on her son

A Providence, Rhode Island, mother will serve nearly 20 years in prison for shaking her 6-week-old child so violently that it caused permanent brain damage in the boy.

The Providence Journal reports
30-year-old Danielle Lefebvre was sentenced to 18 years in prison Thursday for the October 2011 assault on her son.

Justice Netti Vogel ordered Lefebvre to undergo mental health counseling and barred her from contacting the child.

Prosecutors say Lefebvre caused brain bleeding, a complex skull fracture and rib fractures when she shook and threw her son in a fit of rage.

A social worker testified that Lefebvre told her she assaulted the baby because he wouldn't stop crying.

Prosecutors say the baby has since been adopted after Lefebvre's parental rights were terminated following her March conviction.
