1 Dead in Dump Truck Rollover on Route 1

State police responded shortly after 2 p.m. to the crash near the interchange with Lynn Fells Parkway

One person died in the crash on U.S. Route 1 in Saugus, Massachusetts.

A man was killed Wednesday afternoon when the dump truck he was driving hit a guardrail and rolled over on U.S. Route 1 in Saugus.

State police responded shortly after 2 p.m. to the crash near the interchange with Lynn Fells Parkway. The truck landed upright after rolling over completely, blocking the roadway.

The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as John R. Thebeau, 62, of Wilmington.

All lanes were closed for about two hours on Route 1 south in Saugus at Walnut Street. The southbound lanes reopened just before 5 p.m. 

The jug handle on Route 1 north and the ramp from Route 129 to Route 1 south were also temporarily closed to reduce traffic onto the southbound side of the highway.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
