2 drivers injured in crash involving school bus in Grafton

None of the 14 Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School students on the bus were hurt, according to police.

A car crossed the dividing line on a Grafton, Massachusetts, road, hitting a school bus carrying students head-on and leaving students and witnesses shocked.

Two drivers were taken to the hospital, one with serious injuries, after a crash involving a school bus in Grafton, Massachusetts, on Tuesday morning.

Grafton police said they responded to a 911 call reporting the crash between the bus and a passenger vehicle on Route 140 near Browns Road around 7:10 a.m.

The driver of the passenger vehicle had to be extricated and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries The bus driver was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

None of the 14 Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School students on the bus were hurt, according to police.

School officials said parents were notified about the crash and students were cleared by EMS before they were taken to school on a new bus. School nurses also checked on students before they were sent to class.

Counselors are available for any students involved.

"BVT is very grateful for the diligence and fast action of the first responders and the Vendetti Bus Company, and the fact that none of the students nor the school bus driver sustained serious injuries," district Superintendent Dr. Michael Fitzpatrick told NBC10 Boston.

Aerial video from the scene showed a school bus that appeared to have sustained substantial front-end damage surrounded by emergency vehicles and personnel. Police said preliminary investigation shows that the bus was going south in the southbound lane when the other vehicle somehow crossed over from the opposite lane, causing a t-bone type crash.

The road remains closed, though they hope to have it reopen by noon. The crash is under investigation.

Another, separate school bus crash occurred about 10 miles away in Milford on Tuesday morning.

The crash was reported shortly after 8 a.m. and involved a school bus and another vehicle. Two children and one adult were taken to area hospitals but police said their injuries were not believed to be serious.
