A tractor-trailer rollover on Interstate 95 in Providence, Rhode Island, Monday morning made a mess of the morning commute for many drivers.
The crash was reported around 2:30 a.m. at Exit 39B-C in Providence, according to Rhode Island State Police. The state Department of Transportation said the crash involved injuries and a hazmat situation, but did not elaborate
The crash blocked the right lane. Traffic was able to use the left lane, but delays were reported. Another lane reopened around 7 a.m. after the truck was uprighted, according to WJAR.
State police said their investigation showed the tractor-trailer driver, a 65-year-old man from Cumberland, was headed north when he struck the barrier separating I-95 from the access road to Smithfield Avenue.
The tractor-trailer, registered to AGP Construction in Johnston, was carrying 18 compacted and crushed cars for scrap metal when it rolled over. The 18 cars, weighing between 2,000-3,000 pounds, spilled onto both I-95 north and the access road.
State police, DEM Hazard Specialists and the Department of Transportation all assisted in cleaning up the highway. All lanes were reopened shortly before 8 a.m.
