Mass. woman, NH man seriously injured in Nashua highway crash

Laura Gomes Duhan, 26, of Haverhill, Mass., was airlifted after the Circumferential Highway crash, while 26-year-old Ian Odea, of Hudson, NH, was taken by ambulance to another hospital

Two people were seriously injured late Saturday night when their car went off the road and rolled down a steep embankment leading to railroad tracks by the Merrimack River in Nashua, New Hampshire.

Nashua Fire Rescue and state police say they responded to a call around 11:20 p.m. for a crash off the ramp to Circumferential Highway eastbound from Daniel Webster Highway and found a red 2022 Hyundai Kona that was overturned at the bottom of the embankment. A man and a woman both had serious injuries at the scene.

According to Nashua Fire Rescue, both occupants had been ejected from the car. State police, however, said that only the female passenger was thrown from the vehicle during the crash.

The woman -- identified as 26-year-old Laura Gomes Duhan, of Haverhill, Massachusetts -- was flown by Boston MedFlight to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, Mass.

The driver -- identified as 26-year-old Ian Odea, of Hudson, NH -- was taken by ambulance to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center.

Both Gomes Duhan and Odea are expected to survive, according to first responders.

State police and Nashua Fire Rescue were assisted on scene by Nashua police.

All lanes on both sides of the highway, as well as the on- and offramps to Daniel Webster Highway, were closed to accommodate the medical helicopter landing.

All aspects of the crash are under investigation, including the cause. Anyone with information that could help investigators is asked to contact Trooper First Class Tyler Duhamel at 603-223-4381 or tyler.j.duhamel@dos.nh.gov.
