Police say they seized 23 neglected horses from a farm in Woodstock, Vermont, saying some of the Arabians were showing ribs and bones.

The owner of Skyland Lane Farm, 63-year-old Marjatta Lavin, faces multiple counts of animal cruelty and was scheduled to be arraigned Friday. She didn't return calls to her home and it was not immediately known if she had a lawyer.

Police acted under a warrant Thursday to seize the animals and take them to the Green Mountain Horse Association.

Police said they worked with a team including representatives from horse rescue groups, the state agricultural agency and two veterinarians.
