Former Transportation Exec Launching Vt. Governor Bid

Sue Minter, a Democrat, is planning an event Tuesday in her hometown of Waterbury.

Former Vermont Transportation Secretary Sue Minter is going to be launching her bid to become the state's next governor.

Minter, a Democrat, is planning an event Tuesday in her hometown of Waterbury.

Minter is set to enter the race one day after fellow Democrat Matt Dunne also announced he's running. House Speaker Shap Smith has already announced he will seek the nomination.

On the Republican side, Lt. Gov. Phil Scott and businessman Bruce Lisman are running.

Before she became transportation secretary, Minter directed the state's recovery from 2011 flooding from Tropical Storm Irene, which devastated much of the state.

Democratic Gov. Peter Shumlin is not seeking re-election next year.
