Woman dies after being struck by vehicle in Brockton

Police say a person was hit by a car just before 7 a.m. at North Main and Battle streets in Brockton, Massachusetts. The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

A woman has died after being struck by a vehicle on Tuesday morning in Brockton, Massachusetts, authorities have confirmed.

The crash happened at 6:23 a.m. at the corner of North Main and Battles streets, according to Brockton police.

The 37-year-old woman found in the road and rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital by ambulance, and the Plymouth District Attorney's Office confirmed in an email shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday that the woman had died.

The district attorney's office identified the woman who was killed as Bettie Etienne, of Brockton.

The district attorney's office said preliminary investigation determiend that Etienne was crossing the street when she was struck by a Dodge Caravan. Video surveillance showed the traffic light was green for traffic to proceed along North Main Street, and a red hand was illuminated ont he pedestrian control signal.

The 20-year-old male driver of the Dodge Caravan remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, authorities said.

The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by state police assigned to the district attorney's office and Brockton police.
