A man has died after he was reportedly stabbed during a fight Saturday night in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.

Woonsocket Police Chief Thomas Oates tells NBC10 Boston affiliate WJAR that several people were involved in an altercation in the street outside 380 Social Street.

Police were called at 6:11 p.m. for a reported stabbing.

The male victim was stabbed multiple times and rushed to Landmark Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, WJAR reports. Police released his name Sunday, identifying him as 32-year-old Christopher Penado.

Police haven't said what led to the disturbance, and there was no word on any arrests. Further details were not immediately available.

Penado's mom spoke to WJAR on Sunday, saying he had just returned to Rhode Island on Friday after celebrating his 12-year-old son's birthday with the rest of his family in Florida. Twenty-four hours later, Penado was dead, and his family wants justice -- without any more violence.

"Yes I want justice. I want accountability," Kendall Penado told WJAR. "But I don't want any other mother to have to lose a child."

An investigation into the fatal stabbing is ongoing.
