Police ID couple found dead after apparent murder-suicide in East Hartford, Conn.

NBC Universal, Inc.

Police are investigating the deaths of a husband and wife in East Hartford. They said early Thursday morning that their deaths appeared to be a murder-suicide.

Officers responded to a home on Hilltop Farms Lane at 10:32 p.m. on Wednesday after receiving a report of a possible gunshot victim and found 62-year-old Naresh Kumar and his 54-year-old wife, Upma Sharma, police said.

East Hartford police said they are investigating an apparent murder-suicide. Neighbors are sharing what they saw and heard.

The East Hartford Police and the East Hartford Fire Department provided medical assistance but the husband and wife were pronounced dead, police said.

Kumar and Sharma, both of East Hartford, had been married for several years and police said they learned there was a dispute before the incident.

They both had been shot and a handgun was found nearby. It was legally registered to Kumar, police said.

Sharma's sister was in the home and was not injured.

Officer Marc Caruso, the public information officer for the East Hartford Police Department, said she had contacted another family member out of state about the shooting and that person called East Hartford police.

No children were in the home, according to police.

The investigation is continuing and police said there is no threat to the public.

Caruso said there was no history of domestic violence at the house and it appeared to be a quiet household.

Neighbors also said they did not see any signs of trouble in the marriage.

Some reported seeing a car speed down the road on Wednesday night and heard screeching. Others told NBC Connecticut they heard screaming.
