An Israeli soldier was killed Friday after the military sent troops into Gaza in an operation to take out tunnels used by militants, according to The Associated Press. The name of the slain soldier and the circumstances of his death were not immediately released. Israel intensified its 11-day campaign against Gaza's Hamas rulers by launching a ground operation late Thursday in response to rocket fire from Gaza on its cities. More than 250 Palestinians have died in Israel's air campaign.
