6-year-old remains in critical condition after domestic assault of mom, two children in Bridgeport, Conn.: police

A 33-year-old mother and her 4-and-6-year-old children were badly injured during a domestic assault in Bridgeport on Wednesday morning and the 6-year-old remains in critical condition, according to police.

All three were in critical condition on Wednesday afternoon and one child remained in critical condition on Wednesday night. Officials said the mother and the 4-year-old are in stable condition.

A suspect has been arrested.

Police officers responded to an apartment in the 2400 block of Main Street around 10 a.m. Wednesday when they received a report that an adult and children had been assaulted.

When officers arrived, they detained a man who was walking away from the area and more officers went into the apartment building, where they found a 33-year-old mother and her children, a 4-year-old and a 6-year-old, suffering from serious, life-threatening injuries. 

The victims were “brutally assaulted,” according to police who described the injuries as blunt-force trauma. 

All three were taken to area hospitals and admitted.

Police identified the suspect as 38-year-old Abdulrahim Sulaiman, of Bridgeport. 

Sulaiman was arrested and transported to the Bridgeport Police Department. 

He has been charged with three counts of criminal attempted murder, three counts of assault in the first degree, two counts of risk of injury to a child and criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. 

He was held without bond and will be arraigned at Bridgeport Superior Court on Thursday morning.

Police said this was a domestic assault and the suspect knows the victims.
