Four people were hurt when two vehicles were involved in a collision that shut Route 1 north in Peabody, Massachusetts, for hours Monday.
There were serious injuries in the crash, according to Massachusetts State Police, and one of the drivers was airlifted to Tufts Medical Center in Boston. The driver and two passengers in the other vehicle were taken to Beverly Hospital by ambulance.
Firefighters said the overdose-reversal drug Narcan was administered at the scene.
The front of one of the vehicles was completely crumpled.
State police first reported the accident around 2:20 p.m. and closed northbound traffic on Route 1 onto I-95.
Route 1 south was also temporarily shut down to allow the medical helicopter to land. Both sides of the highway were reopened by about 4 p.m.
A state police accident reconstruction unit was sent to the scene of the crash.
