The driver of a vehicle that crashed into a school bus van, injuring two students, has been charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, police said.
Two high school-aged students were taken to a local hospital after the school bus van they were riding in was sideswiped by another vehicle in Revere on Friday, according to state police.
State police said the crash happened at Eliot Circle, just off of Revere Beach, around 1 p.m. The two vehicles were traveling in the same direction when the second vehicle drifted into the van's lane.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the school van, Kerry Grasso, 45, of Revere, is facing drunken driving and marked lanes violation charges, state police said. She was taken to the state police barracks in Revere for booking. Her name was not immediately released.
The injured students, identified only as a student from Northeast Metro Tech, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. A total of 10 students and one instructor were on board the van at the time, with the instructor driving, school officials said.
The van was returning from a vocational work site in Winthrop when the crash occurred.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing. State police troopers and the state police commercial vehicle enforcement unit remain at the scene.
