The Secret Service is purchasing Jet Skis, in part to protect President Donald Trump's family as they participate in water sports.
A Secret Service purchase memo says the agency needs two Jet Skis and a trailer to "enhance safety/security for protective assignments on the water."
The Secret Service needs the Jet Skis to protect the first family at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, and in the Hamptons, on Long Island, the memo says.
"The First Family is very active in water sports," the memo says. "Several family members along with their guest (sic) participate in open water activities for which USSS Special Agent Rescue Swimmers are responsible.”
The Secret Service said it needed 4-stroke, 4-cylinder 1498cc watercraft that can each carry a maximum weight of 900 pounds. Kawasaki models that meet those specifications start at about $10,000 each.
Previously, special agents have "rented watercraft with their own personal funds," the memo says.
The Secret Service declined to comment.

The Jet Skis will be stored at the Secret Service's training center in Beltsville, Maryland.
To protect presidents and first families, the Secret Service must adapt to their lifestyles. Special agents have found themselves running, hiking and skiing alongside presidents and dignitaries.
