One of two people killed in a deadly head-on crash on Cape Cod over the weekend has been identified as a Marine veteran who was driving home after visiting his wife Kara and their newborn daughter at Cape Cod Hospital, according to a GoFundMe page set up for the family.
Kevin Quinn, 32, of Mashpee, was killed early Saturday morning when his 2012 GMC SUV was hit by a 2000 Toyota sedan on Route 28 in Cotuit. He was supposed to return to the hospital later that morning to bring home his wife Kara and their daughter Logan Audrey Quinn, who was born on July 25, according to the GoFundMe page.
"Everybody that knew Kevin loved him," said family friend Rob Dinan. "He was just so looking forward to being a dad."
Friends of Quinn, a combat veteran who was deployed to Afghanistan twice, placed American flags Sunday on the road where the Mashpee Marine was killed.
They say there are no words to describe the joy he felt as a father and no words to describe the tragedy after the head-on crash that killed him on his way home from the hospital just days after meeting his daughter.
"I just felt like I got hit in the chest with a sledge hammer," Dinan said. "I just couldn't believe it."

Barnstable police responded around 12:10 a.m. Saturday for a report of a crash with multiple victims, entrapment, a car fire and an ejection near 4728 Falmouth Road. Upon arrival, officers found Quinn pinned inside his vehicle. Emergency crews extricated him using the Jaws of Life. He was transported to South Shore Hospital with life-threatening injuries where he was later pronounced dead.
Mickey Rivera, 22, of Fall River, was in the Toyota, which was split in two in the collision. Both Rivera and his passenger, 24-year-old Jocelyn Goyette, of New Bedford, were ejected from the vehicle, which was on fire when crews arrived.
Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene.
Goyette was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She was later transferred to a Boston hospital where she remains in critical condition.
In response to reports that Mashpee police were pursuing Rivera before the fatal crash, The Mashpee Chief of Police, Scott Carline, said in a statement:
"We are in the early stages of what is going to be a comprehensive and thorough investigation into the Mashpee Police Department's involvement of the facts and circumstances leading up to this terrible tragedy."
Both the Mashpee and Barnstable police departments said in statements that they extend their sincere condolences to the families and victims of this tragic accident.
"Thankfully he got to at least spend a couple of days with the baby," Dinan said.
Quinn's friends are raising money for his wife and daughter, with more than $100,000 raised in a matter of hours on Sunday. They say there are no words for the community's support.
"To have this happen and have the outpouring of support we have for him, it's just beyond words," Dinan said.
A funeral for Quinn will be held on Monday, August 6. He'll be buried with full military honors at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
There's no word on burial plans for Rivera.
