A former altar boy says in a lawsuit against the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence as well as its current and former bishops that he was sexually abused by a priest decades ago.
The 53-year-old plaintiff says in the suit filed this week that the Rev. Philip Magaldi, pastor at St. Anthony Church in North Providence, abused him 100 to 300 times from the late 1970s until the early 1980s when he was between 12 and 17 years old.
Magaldi died in 2008. His name was included in the diocese's list of "credibly accused" clergy released this summer.
A diocese spokeswoman said in an email the lawsuit is "based on claims alleged to have occurred approximately 40 years ago" and "Our legal counsel is in the process of reviewing it."
