Police: Stabbing Victim Attacked by Up to 9 Assailants

Police say the man beaten and stabbed to death over the weekend after leaving a Providence nightclub was attacked by a group of six to nine suspects.

Providence police on Monday identified the victim of the Sunday attack as 28-year-old Stephen Cabral, of North Providence.

They say Cabral was attacked just after Club Seven closed at 2 a.m.

The assailants had also been at the club.

Cabral was beaten and stabbed in the parking lot of a pharmacy just down the street.

Police said Monday they had some leads but did not announce any arrests.

It was the city's seventh homicide of 2019. Family members tell WJAR-TV that Cabral was a father of three.

The club was temporarily shut down for three days pending a hearing.

In May the club, then known as Seven Nightlife, was ordered closed for several days after two people were injured in a shooting nearby. The men, aged 22 and 25, suffered non-life threatening injuries.
