A man and woman from Maine's Androscoggin County will spend nine years in federal prison after pleading guilty to transporting a 13-year-old girl to work as a prostitute.
Twenty-five-year-old Shawna Calhoun of Lewiston and 28-year-old Alvin Houston of Auburn admitted in July to transporting the girl with the intent to engage her in prostitution. Records show police found Calhoun and Houston in a Bangor motel while searching for a missing girl.
The Sun Journal reports Calhoun and Houston drove the girl to various hotels in the Boston area to engage in prostitution. They then drove her in a rental car to Bangor when they learned the Federal Bureau of Investigation was looking for the girl.
