Rain moves out Tuesday afternoon and evening from our first of two systems this week. Skies clear overnight, and a west wind will pick up briefly before easing on Wednesday. Forecasters in the U.S. have warned of another round of winter weather that could complicate travel leading up to Thanksgiving.

In the Northern Hemisphere, the winter solstice occurs on either Dec. 21 or 22 every year. This year, it falls on Dec. 21.

The big story today will be a strong northwest wind which will gust between 30-40 mph this afternoon, diminishing somewhat this evening.

Skies clear as the day goes on, with sunshine in the afternoon and highs in the upper 40s to low 50s.

Other than mountain snow showers overnight tonight, the rest of the region will be mainly dry with a gusty northwest wind persisting with gusts over 30 mph.

A few communities could pick up another inch of rain through at least this afternoon before the low churns away from the Commonwealth and our skies begin to gradually clear. 

Our pattern has flipped and we now have a “cornucopia” of unsettled weather and precipitation types in our Thanksgiving outlook.  A strong low pressure system continues to meander across New England on Friday and through the weekend. By late Saturday into Sunday, the low is over the Canadian Maritimes but will still affect our weather pattern.  On Friday, our scattered rain...
